“If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.”
Credit for this quote was once attributed to management guru Peter Drucker. It turns out he never said it. And indeed, “Measurement Myopia” can be a real concern for organizations who fixate on numbers at the expense of people and relationships.
But setting goals and tracking KPIs remains an effective method of focusing, and improving, your efforts. When a goal is important to your organization, motivation and validation are derived from being able to observe tangible results.
With that in mind, The Pace Group set a bold goal for 2021: to reforest at least 10,000 trees through our net tree neutral printing program. With many offices, campuses and retail businesses remaining either closed or at reduced capacity, uncertainty continued to reign at the start of the year. That uncertainty extended to the marketing and communications budgets of our clients, which potentially made our goal rather ambitious.
But sustainability and community involvement have long been among our guiding principles. Restoring our vital forests isn’t just our goal. It’s our obligation, one which we proudly undertook with the support of clients and partners who share our passion and commitment.
And here we are on the doorstep of 2022 having not only achieved our goal but exceeded it. Trees are being planted in the Dominican Republic, Madagascar, Canada and here in the United States right now, thanks to you. From our friends at Willis Towers Watson, who alone contributed nearly 1,000 trees to our count, to those of you with smaller jobs that contributed a fraction of a tree, we are grateful to every single one of our clients and share this accomplishment with all of you.
It’s been a great year for our forests. But we won’t rest on our laurels. Keep an eye on this space as we finalize our plans for 2022. We know a “journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” But a walk through a lush, green forest is truly most enjoyable!
